A largely attcneled conference was helel in Palmerston North this morning of representatives of tlie agricultural and pastoral business interests of Palmerston North, Feilding and Marton, to discuss the question of selection of a site for the North Island agricultural college, which it is now agreerl will be between Palmerston North and Marton. The meeting passed a resolution heartily supporting t Iv- decision of the Universities Commission to establish one agricultural college between Palmerston North and Marton, a* being in the licst interest.- of the Dominion as a whole anel the North Inland in particular. The meeting pledged it-e-lf to further tin- establishment ol" the college at the earliest possible moment. Several speakers stressed the fact that parochialism should be sunk, and thai all should combine in assisting the professeirs to select a site most suiteel for the: purpose. It was accordingly decided to elect a committee of Palmerston North and Feilding representatives to later show sites at the southern end for tlie proposed college area. Several speakers emphasised the vital necessity for scientific education in farming, especially the dairying industry, which is worth twenty millions yearly to Ihe Dominion, to enable New Zealand to keep abreast of overseas competitors. The .Mayor of Publicist on North (Mr. Nathan), said what was really needed was an agricultural university rather than a college, adding that the present universities of the Dominion were really night schools, lacking iv esprit de corps anil social life.
