Tho Australasian bowling carnival, which has attracted 774 entries in the singles championship and 24G in the full rinks, commenced yesterday in fine but hot weather, and will conclude on March (i. Prominent among the New Zealanders who have entered for the singles are Melbourne Orchard, Vie. Casey, G. Farrow, and Parsons. All four won their way through the preliminary round. Casey and Parsons received byes, while Melbourne Orchard and Farrow had easy victories. Both the latter were in good form. Orchard went ahead from the early stages of the match and drew his shots perfectly. He conceded his opponent only eight points. Farrow had an even more decisive success, winning by 23 to 4. The New Zealanders, by special permission of the Australasian Bowling Council, are playing according to their own association's rules, but a number of local bowlers think that the council overstepped the mark in granting this concession. Rain marred play in the afternoon, but no matches were postponed. It is expected that the final will be played on Frielay. when tlie rinks championship commences. New Zealand has entered two rinks, which will be skipped by Orchard and Parsons. Both are strong quartets. A. Parsons (New Zealand) received a forfeit from Bunyan (N.S.W.). Colquhoun (N.S.W.) received a forfeit from Harford (New Zealand). McKinnon (N.S.W.) beat J. Butler (New Zealand) by 21 to 8. The game. Langley (N.S.W.) against Brabant (New Zealand) was struck out. Orchard (New Zealand) beat Rummell (N.S.W.) by 21 to 8. Farrow (New Zealand) beat Watt (N.S.W.) by 2,3 to 4. Backard (N.S.W.) beat McLean (New Zealand) by 22 to 8. Vie. Casey (New Zealand) received a forfeit from Gartrell (N.S.W.). R. Melbourne (N.S.W.) beat N. Casey (Fiji) by 21 to 12.-
