She should arrive at Auckland on March 1, from Vancouver, en Toute to Sydney. XEW ELLERMAX LINER. A new single screw steamer, the City of 1 Lyons, designed to-carry 11,420. tone, haul been launched for the Ellerman Lines, Ltd. She has a cruieer stern and is 455ff in length. The five cargo holds are served by_ 18 steel cargo derricks and -17 steam winches. All cargo holds, 'tween decks and bunkers, are Btted with steam fireestinguishing pipes,- and the double bottom is arranged for carrying oil fuel as well as water ballast. The vessel * has been built to the highest class of Lloyd's Register. NEW CONSTRUCTION AT BELFAST. Reports state that Harland and Wolff, Ltd., are well on the way towards heading the returns list again this year. New construction in hand at Belfast includes a large passenger liner (18,700 tons) to be named the Laurentic, for the White Star Line, which was laid down during the year, and, which will have reciprocating -steam engines; the Alcantara (22.500 tons) fettle Royal Mail S.P. Co.; the Carnarvon Castle (20,000 tone) for the Union-Castle Line, which is to be launched shortly; and two vessels for the British and African Steam Navigation Co., Ltd., of 8200 tone each, all these five vessels being high class motor passenger liners with the Htrland B and W double acting .engines.
