PRIZE WINS HORTOX TROPHY.

The Royal New Zealand Tacht Squadron held two races on Saturday over the usual harbour courses, both events starting and finishing off the Kins's wharf. The first race was a central handicap £v>r first-class yachts, the prize beins the Horton bequest of £-0. The other three prizes were donated by the squadron. The entries and handicaps were lorancl scr. Moana <>m. Prize 7ni, Rawene 7m. Victory Tin. Little Jim 14m. and Windward l'4m. There was a fresh breeze from the south-west and all carried three lower fails, except Little Jim, which carried her topsail. The race started at -.30 p.m.. Kawenc crossing first with Prize. Little Jinr, I.jranpi and Victory all together, """with Windward 30s and Moana 50s late. It was a leg and a short one all the way up the harbour to the Rona buoy off Birkenhead. The second race was for the club's f ]Rft restricted patiki class boats i.M class I. with junior crews under 21 years. The starters were Manene. Mawhiti. and Mollip. which got away in this order at 2.4.1 p.m., with one reef down. The course was from off the Kind's wharf, round Sandj spit, thence round Resolution Buoy, and I back to mark off King's wharf, twice I round.

On the run to Sandspit all carried leading jibs, and Mawhiti set her spinnaker when about halfway down a more which the others quickly followed. Mawhiti led round Sandsplt, the times beinj;: Mawhiti 3h 10m 20s. Mollie 3b llm 12s. and Manene 3h llm 335.

On the beat across to Resolution Mawhiti still held the lead, but Manene passed Mollie. which llßrf trouble in zettins her centre-board ilown. and she fell off to leeward. On the beat up to the mark off the Kings wharf Manene came up on Mawhiti, and laying the mark in one board. gybed mund at :'.h 42m 3Ss. Ma»vhiti following at 3b 42m 455. and Mollie at 3h 4."> m 20s. On the second round Manene lead all the way and ihe finish was timed: Manew 4h '-2m oils. Mawhiti 4h 23m 13s. Mollie 4h 26m.

Manene wins with Mawhiti second, and Mollle third. M.nnene was sailed by S. S. Wilson. Mawhiti hy Scutt Wilson, and Mollie by A. C. Rohb.
