A FINE TESTIMONIAL.

Every Xew Zealander vrho takea an intelligent interest in education will be pleased on reading the letter in which the secretary of the Rhodes Trust explains the allocation of a second scholarship to New Zealand. "New Zealand stands at the head of the record of Rhodes Scholars from the Dominions. The trustees are confident that New Zeaand will be able to send two scholars in future with the same intellectual, moral, and physical qualities as she lias sent in the past, and that her scholars will continue to be what they have been—a credit both to New Zealand and to the Empire." This is a high tribute to the value of our educational system. Xo section of New Zealanders will read it with greater interest than those who have opposed the extravagant contentions of University '"reformers"' who see so little good in our University system. In company with others, we have repeatedly asked these critics how they fit in their condemnation with the fact that products of our University do so well in competition with students from other universities. The success of our Rhodes Scholars has been a case in point, and we are justified in being glad that the Rhodes Trust has thus publicly certified to the value of this argument.
