SWIMMING
DOMINION CHAMPIONSHIPS,
All praise to Auckland's representatives at the Dominion Championships. The results of the races have so far proved that this centre is in a class of its own for swimmers. With two sections of the programme completed on Wednesday, our representatives have secured eight firsts, six seconds, five thirds, and have established two new records, surely an achievement that must make the swimming public proud of its representatives. The championships have also supplied two big surprises. The defeat of Adamson, the Auckland 100 yds champion, came as the bigger surprise of the two, as it was generally thought that he would have little difficulty in getting the title after his record swim done at the Tepid Baths in 58 4-ss. However, Wanganui sent a better swimmer in Dowsett, who beat _Adamson in what has been described as the greatest 100 yds championship yet seen in the Dominion. The remainder of the results were practically anticipated, and the lead for the Yaldhurst Shield already established by Auckland cannot now be reduced that it will alter the final result. The annual meeting of the Auckland Drapers and Mercers' Swimming Club was held on Tuesday night, Mr. J. R. Rendell presiding. Among other business transacted it was decided to apply to the Auckland Centre for permission to hold the third Ewimming carnival since its inception at the Tepid Baths ou March 2. The programme drawn up is as follows:—33 l-3yds men's championship. 33 l-3yds ladies' championship, GO 2-3 yds men's championship, 00 2-3vds ladies' championship, 100 yds men's championship, 100 yds ladies' championship, neat header, 33 l-3yds married men's race, corfu dive, combined relay race, 220 yds championship, 33 l-3yd's breaststroke championship, men's relay race. The carnival will be held for the shield won l»st year by John Court's swimmers. There is keen competition for this shield, and the popularity of the interhouse sports is evidenced by the interest always taken in the meetings by the staffs and employers alike. The idea is an excellent one and should receive every support.
