NEW ZEALAND AT WEMBLEY.
Praise for Local Enterprise. ■Messrs. Dearsly's, Ltd., of 7, Xugent Street, the well-known manufacturers of "Elexile" footwear, who at the invitation of the Government forwarded an exhibit to Wembley, have received the following communication dated January 13, 1920, from the Department of Industries and Commerce: — '"The authorities controlling the British Empire Exhibition decided against a system of competitive awards in relation to exhibits at Wembley, but determined' upon the issue to exhibitors of a commemorative medal accompanied by a decorative certificate. The Department takes pleasure in forwarding to you under separate cover a certificate in respect of the exhibit provided by you for the Xew Zealand pavilion at Wembley, and desires to record its appreciation of your action in co-operating in the effort to display adequately the national life, progress, "and attractions of this Dominion. — (Signed) J. W. Collins, secretary." It is to the credit of Messrs. Dearsly's, Ltd., that they had the courage and enterprise to respond to the Department's appeal, and forward an exhibit to the great Imperial Show. It is satisfactory to know that their enterprise has not only been appreciated by the Governments" of New Zealand and Great Britain, but also that it has resulted in the company being awarded so high an honour. This, also shows that our secondary industries are fast becoming a great factor in the development of this portion of our great Empire.
