EX-MAYOR AND SOLICITOR. CLIENTS DEFRAUDED. LONDON, January 20. Two solicitors. John Martin, aged 71, who was three times Mayor' of Reading, and his brother, Frederick, aged 69, have been sentenced to three years' imprisonment for having converted to their own use. £SOOO of their clients' money. Counsel pointed out that the men's ages made any imprisonment equivalent to a life sentence. Mr. Justice Sankey replied: "I have never had a more painful duty to perform since I have been a judge, but the public must be protected."
