ABUSE OF TELEPHONE.

WARNING TO PUBLIC. It has been reported to the manage ment of the "Auckland Star" that some individual has been guilty of a gross abuse of the telephone system, by calling up business firms and private householders, representing that he was making inquiries on behalf of the "Star," and alleging that certain criminal offences had been committed. No such iuquiries have been made by the "Star" staff, and the Detective Department is now investigating the matter. The public is advised that if this individual attempts any further abuse of the telephone the person called up should take prompt steps to ascertain the number or box from which he is speaking
