FIRE AT NGARUAWAHIA.
OCCUPANTS' HASTY EXIT. (By Telegraph.— Oin Correspondent.) J NGARUAWAHIA, this day. | Last night a six-roomed cottage owned and occupied by Mr. John Marshall waa totally destroyed by fire. Mr. Marshall wae away from home. His wife and Mrs. Pickering, who were sleeping in a bedroom at the back of the house, were at midnight awakened by the hoo-ting of a motor horn. They found the centre of the building ablaze and bedroom full of smoke. They escaped in their night clothes through a window. Owing to the power being off the electric fire alarm was out of action. A few members of the brigade arrived with a lead of hose, but too late to do any good. Nothing was saved except one table and a sewing machine, the occupants losing all their clothes. and personal effects. The house was insured in the Liverpool and London and Globe Company for £400, furniture £200, and musical instruments £100 in the same: office. Much help was given by passing motorists.
