UNEXPECTED FALL OF COAL.

WESTPORT, Thursday

An inquest was held at Millerton today into the death of John Brown, who was killed yesterday while working in the Westport Coal Company's Millertuu mine.

Evidence was given to the effect thata deputy fired a shot and after examining the working face left on his rounds. The deceased was in the act of dressing the face with a pick when a lump of coal weighing about one cwt came away, falling on his head and fracturing his skull and neck. Death was instantaneous.

A verdict of accidental death was returned, no blame being attachable to anyone.
