ARBITRATION COURT.

WO2KEES' REPRESENTATIVE. I CIRCULARS AXD TELEGRAMS. Considerable interest is being worked up in connection with the election of workers' representative on the Arbitration Court. Recently the executive of the Trades and Labour Council at Wellington issued a circular criticising the work of Mr. H. Hunter, the present representative of the workers on the Court, and calling upon all unions to i support the candidature of Mr. W. Monteith, the nominee of the Wellington Trades Council. Mr. H. Hunter now replies to the criticism contained in the circular and I 1 the action of the Wellington executive in : another circular, in which he points out that the Wellington body acted without j ' any mandate from the federation and j • against the wishes of the Auckland, I Canterbury, and Otago Trades Councils.! He also quotes letters he has received at different times from various union!' secretaries congratulating him upon hisi; efforts on behalf of the workers in matters which have been before the Arbitration Court, and winds up by describing ; the circular of the Wellington executive as a clumsy effort to mislead the unionists of Xew Zealand as to the issue to be decided. A week ago a telegram was published which had been sent to Mr. Hunter by the secretary of the Auckland Trades and Labour Council, and which stated that 75 per cent of the Auckland unions would support the candidature of Mr. Hunter for the position of workers' representative. The executive of the council met at i the Trades Hall last evening, and the matter of the telegram to Mr. Hunter was brought up. It gave rise to considerable discussion, and it was decided that the telegram was. issued without authority, and did not embody the opinion of the council. It was further decided to recommend all Auckland unions to support the candidature of . Mr. W. Monteith for the position of workers' representative, and Mr. W. E. : Sill for the position of deputy -re pre- , sentative. -' — —
