DEATH UNDER OPERATION.
I PROTEST BY A FATHER. | STUDENTS AS ASSISTANTS. (Oy Telegraph.—Pross Association.) | WELLINGTON, this day. At an inquest into the death of a child of five, who died under operation for the removal of tonsils, the father protested strongly against assistants or students i being allowed, without supervision, to j carry out intricate operations. He considered a skilled man would have sav«d the boy's life. The evidence showed that the operation had been performed by two doctors, one with thirteen and the other with seven months' experience. The | coroner, however, pointed out that one of them had had considerable experience in this particular operation, and appeared to have employed the usual and best methods, though the operation resulted in failure. He gave an open verdict.
