Hill, course manager at Ellerslie, leaves for Sydney early next month on a combiued business aud pleasure trip. Tiega was prominent for a good way in • the Anniversary Handicap at Trentham on Wednesday, but raded out In the straight. Sunbar, who is engaged at the Bay or Islands meeting, raced well at Whangarei, and may be in demand for the Pakaraka Handicap. Martulla was prominent in the Wellington Cup, and finished fourth. This mare should be seen to greater advantage before the meeting concludes. tsleepy Sol, after his win at Takapuna in the Thames Plate, will have some friends in the Bay or Islands Cup. He should stay out a mile and a-quarter. The Ngaruawahia meeting will take place at .Ngaruawahia to-morrow, and though this is a non-tote meeting, the fields are good and the racing should be interesting. Rouex appears as though he will not be long in collecting a stake. He was showing up well in the Anniversary Handicap at Trentham on Wednesday, when the distance was readied. Hipo was stated to have a good chance in the Telegraph Handicap at Trentham on Wednesday, and was backed accordingly. He, however, was never prominent, and finished out of a place. Diog-enes, on his Auckland running-, appeared to have more than a paseing chance in the RuapeTm Handicap, but was nearly last when the course proper was reached, and finished in the ruck.

The time for the Wellington Cup, 2.31, equals the record or the race, held conjointly by Maioha and Insurrection. The Australasian record is 2.30 A, put us by Wedding March at Randwick in 1919.

Lftter or Credit has been sent to Trentham, and Is engaged in a five furlongs event on the last day, which will be her only start. She will have some fronds, for there is no doubt about her pace.

Te Monanul is a good norso, and he gave a further taste of his quality by running- second in the Wellington Cup. He has performed most consistently this season, and is in the forefront of the best handicap horses in the Dominion.

Mr. F. Beban, who lias recently been making: purchases or yearlings in rsew Zealand, belongs to Canada, and he is going , to ship the youngsters to Vancouver by the Waiherno, which leaves Lyttelton early next month. Recently he bought three yearlings in Auckland from Culross, uienopal, and Tinoreka, and they are expected to reach Wellington to-day. They will be joined by the colt by Kilbroney— Favourita, which Mr. Beban purchased at the Waikanae sale yesterday for 940gns. Mr. Beban is a New Zealander, and formerly belonged to Waimea, near Hokitika. About IS years ago he went to Canada, ana since then has become the owner or a large sawmill. He has eleven other horses, including Liberty Loan, the winner of the Kentucky Derby a few years ago.

TARANAEI AUTUMN MEETING. Tlie fine programme drawn up by the committee of the Taranaki Jockey'dub for the club's autumn meeting should not be overlooked by owners as nominations for all events except Taranaki Stakes close on Monday next at !) p.m. wih the secretary, Mr. E. P. Webster. The meeting extends over two days, and the amount of prize-money provided is £4075. The chief event is the Taranaki ■Cup, £800, in addition to a trophy valued at £100. The most successful sale of Waikanae yearlings that has been held for many years took place at Thormion yesterday, when nine well-bred youngsters were offered, and all were quitted, the total price being 4700gns, or an average of approximately 522}gns. Top price was obtained for a shapely colt by Kilbroney from Fulsome (own sister to" Humbug , and Epitaph, and half-sister to Commendation). 11k was started at 400gns, and after a good competition Tell to Mr. \V. 11. (iaisrord at OOOgns. This is Fulsorne's first foal, and on breeding - should be a speedy sort. He is well grown, and is sure to come to hand early. Next in order or price was a neatly made colt by Kilbroney from Bonnie Maid, for whom Mr. V. Riddiford paid SOOgns. A bay colt by Paper Money rrom Philomela (dam of Monoxide), brought GTogns, bfingpurchased by Mr. Ulic Shannon on behair or an Australian client. The same buyer also took a bay colt by Paper Money from Aloha, a half-brother to Miss Maid and Armore], and he will also go to the other side. The price was 335gns.
