Having accommodation for 100 passengers besides 4000 tons of cargo, the motorship Malabar, which arrived at Sydney from England several -weeks ago, Is the first ocean-going single screw passenger motor ship to be sent to sea. The vessel ■was built by 'Messrs. Barclay, Curie and <.'o., the eight-cylinder Burmeister and Wain engine 'being supplied by John G. Klncald and Co., of Greenock. The Richardson steamer Awahou vras expected to sail from Auckland for East Coast ports at 3 o'clock this afternoon. The Admiralty oil tanker Nucula came out of dock and berthed alongside H.M.s. Dunedln at Devinport this morning. The coastal steamer Kurnalpi Bailed for Opua yesterday afternoon, making her first trip since her arrival from Australia. An expected arrival at Auckland to-morrow i« the Union Company's cargo steamer Kauri from Newcastle. She is bringing a cargo of coal. The White Star liner Corinthic is announced to leave Southampton for Wellington and Auckland on February 26. She Is due at Wellington on April o and at Auckland about a week later. MARA MA'S SAILING TIME. Taking passengers and cargo, the Union Company's intercolonial steamer Marama is announced to sail on her return trip to Sydney at 3 p.m. to-morrow. She Is berthed at the eastern side of the Prince's wharf. THE TOFUA. Returning from her monthly trip to W-esteru .Pacific Islands, tne Union Company's passenger steamer Tofua is expected to leave Suva for Auckland at 6 p.m. to-dny. She Is expected to arrive here ou Monday afternoon or Tuesday morning. H.M.-S. VERONICA. A departure from Auckland this morning was H.M.s. Veronica, for the Haurakl (Julf. She -will visit Port Abercombie and Port Fitzroy and will return to port un Thursday of next week. BRITISH BARQUE CHARTERED. A charter has been arranged for the British four-masted barque U-arthpool, which arrived at Sydney recently from Iquique. She will load a cargo of 41MX> tons of wheat at Sydney for the United Kingdom or the Continent. WAIRUNA ON SATURDAY. According to the latest report received by the Union Company, the transpacific freighter Wairuna will arrive at Auckland from San Francisco at daybreak on Saturday. She la bringing timber, case oil, and general earjro, and will also discharge at Wellington and Australian porte. THE TAINUI. The Shaw, Savlll and Albion Line steamer Tainul, which left Southampton on January 8 for New Zealand ports, is expected to arrive at Wellington on February 15. After landing passengers and malls at the capital port .ehe will proceed to Lyttelton and I'orc Chalmers to unload her general cargo. ATHEXIC FROM ENGLAND. With passengers, mails and cargo, the White Star liner Athenic is scheduled to sail from Southampton for New Zealand on Friday of next week. Her cargo is for discharge at Auckland and Wellington, the vessel being due to arrive at this port on March 8. SURREr FROM HOME. On arrival from London at a late hour to-night, the Federal Line steamer Surrey will proceed to the powder anchorage off Motuihl, having a quantity of explosives to discharge before coming into port. The Fteamer is expected to complete cargo operations at Motuihl on Saturday, when she will come into harbour. Her other cargo i.s fur discharge at southern ports of New Zealand. MATANGI DELAYED. Refusing to sail until one of their number was dismissed, the crew of the Nurtuern l_o. s steamer Matangi walked off their vessel at Bailing time last evening. After discussion between the parties the vessels departure -was postponed until to-dny. Ip rill midday, however, the steamer was still at the wharf. THE KUMAR A. A. S. Paterson and Co. advise that th<? Shaw. Savill and Albion Line steamer Kumara, which is expected to arrive at TNanganul from Australia to-morrow to commence loading for Home, will make Auckland her final port. She is announced to take her final departure from this port on February 16, for London, via Panama. ANNIVERSARY DAY ARRANGEMENTS. Owing to Friday of next week being Anniversary Day, the Northern Company announce that the Ngapuhl will leave Auckland for Russell, Whangaroa and Mangonul on Thursday evening next. The Manaia and the Matangi will sail on Friday as usual A number of the Oulf services have also been altered, and special trips to Walheke have been arranged. ■ THE WEST HE.VSHAW. A radio message from the steamer West Henshaw reports that she expects to arrive at Auckland from Los Angeles at 5 o'clock on Saturday morning. The West Henshaw is a unit of the Swayne and Hoyt Line's fleet of traders, and comes to the local agency of Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane. Her present cargo, which conaiets of timber, case oil and general merchandise, was loaded at Pacific Const porta, the steamer taking her final departure from Los Angeles on December 27. Her other discharging ports are Lyttelton, Dunedln and Melbourne. UNION COMPANY'S STEAMERS. Movements of vessels under the flag of the Union Company, are announced as follow: — The Kurow was expected to leave New I Plymouth to-dny for Wellington and Pdcton. i She is to load at Picton for Auckland ou ■ Monday of next week. The Kaimanawa is to leave Westport for Auckland at 4 o'clock this afternoon. She is bringing n cargo of coal. The Kartlgl is announced to sail at mid-day to-morrow for Newcastle. The Walpahl arrived from Southern ports this morning, and berthed at the Prince's whnrf. She is announced to sail at noon on Saurday for Napier, Wellington, and Dunedln. The Moeraki is to leave Wellington nt 4 p.m. on Monday for Melbourne, via Southern ports. The Wlngatul is to Ball on Tuesday next for Lyttelton direct. Thence she proceeds to Bluff, Dunedin, Oamaru, and Timaru. NEW PANAMA PACIFIC LINER. An order for a fast, 22,000-, ton passenger liner for the New service has been placed with the Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Co. by the International Mercantile 'Marine Co." The new I liner, which will be one of three elster ships, will be the largest and most luxurious vessel ever constructed In an American shipyard. She will be fitted with a ne-w type of propelling machinery, known as the turbo-electric drive. This will give her a sea speed of eighteen knots. She will have accommodation for over 700 passengers and a cargo carrying capacity of 7800 tons. The vessel's design is based on the new "Mlnne" class and should meet exacting requirements of service on all voyages. Special attention has been paid to ventilation. With her hull and upper works painted white, the liner should present »a very smart appearance. Novel features in the vessel's construction will Include large size ports through which automobiles belonging to pnesengers may be driven on board. It Is expected that the new liner will be rendy for service In the j fall of next year, when she will take her i place In the Panama Pacific Line's New York-San Francisco service. R M.S. ARAWA. The 'R.M.s. Arawa arrived this morning from London, via Southampton and Panama Canal, bringing 43 first, 72 second and 398 third class passengers. The Arawa left Southampton on December 11, and experienced fine weather up to the Azores, when a moderate gale was encountered, which lasted for three days. Fine weather held to the canal, which was reached on Monday. December 28. After coaling and giving the passengers a few hours ashore, the ship passed through the canal, arriving at Balboa at 10 p.m., the vessel leaving at noon on the following day. Moderate winds and a Flight sea were experienced to Pltcalrn Island, which was reached on Sunday, January 10, where a stay of an hour enabled the Islanders to bring off fruit and curios, which were eagerly taken by the passengers. Fine weather from the Island to Tiri. reached at 3 a.m. to-day, terminated a Pleasant trip. The festivities on Christmas Day and at New Year were carried out in good style. IRIS SAILS TO-MORROW. For the purpose of repairing a break in the Commonwealth Government's Tasmanian cable, the Pacific Cable Board's steamer Iris ls to leave port to-morrow morning She will probably be absent from Auckland for several weeks. THE SIERENTZ. Having completed discharge of her cargo of sulphur from Texas, the French steamer Sierentz is expected to leave Auckland for Melbourne at midday to-morrow. She is berthed at the King's wharf.
