A TEN 808 TOTE.

(To the Editor.) —On August 5, 1919, the president I of the Auckfand Racing Club (llr- ! Mitchelsoiij, in reply to an inquiry,! definitely stated that when the new j totalisator house was crmpleted, the | plans were, to have a 10/ and 20/ tote ; in each enclosure, vide "'New Zealand j Herald." August".}. 1919. I understand j that the matter has been brought before I the committee once or twice, but on each j occasion it ..as been shelved. Several members with whom I have discussed the matter cannot understand ...... a definite promise given by the president of the club has not bee:, carried out, and are firmly of the opinion that a 10/ tote should be installed without further delay. At Handwick a.. Trentham they have this facility a..d at Te napa, Takapuna, and other galloping courses, and at the Alexandra Park trotting groUnu facilities are given to patrons of all parts to make 10/ investments, -..o d.-lay on the part of the Auckland Racing Club in intailing, is not only a distinct breach of promise, but is playing into the hands of the trotting clubs. They have all facilities granted to make 10/ investments, but members of the Auckland Racing Club are denied this privilege, as once inside no passes to other portions are allowed. All members are very proud of their beautiful grounds, their upkeep and accessories, and the fulfilment of the promise marie will afford a further advantage, which will. I'feel sure, tend to increase the prestige and popularity, as numerous patrons, after having made their bets, would often take a 10/ ticket in addition. It is patent that the president would not have promised to install a 10/ tote inside unless he was satisfied it was necessary then. This promise having been made six years ago, should have been fulfilled long ere this, and the promise ~.en given should now he fulfilled without delay, so as to keep the club up-to-date.—l am, etc., H. R. COOKE.
