N.Z. CROSSBRED WOOL.

DROP LX VALUES. The wool offered at the sales in Napier and Wellington may he said to represent the best of the North Island crossbred wool. At the sale held in Napier early in the week, which, was the third sale of the current season, there was keen competition, with spirited bidding, and a good general demand, but this did not mean that there was any improvement in prices; on the contrary, values appear to have declined. The official range of prices must be accepted as authoritative. and taking average quality only, of the different grades of crossbred wool, the price improvements at the three- sales already held, show as under: — Fine crossbreds. —November sale, 13td to 15Jd; December sale, 12d to 14d; January sale, 12d to 14d. Medium crossbred.—November sale. 13d to 14Ad: December sale, 11 Ad to 12.d: January sale, lid to 12;Jd. Coarse crossbred. — November sale, 1.1 *d to Issd; December sale, 9-id to 112 d; January sale, 9d to 11 id. Low crossbred.—November sale, 11 .d to 12Jd: December sale, 10* dto 12d; January sale, 95d to ll.d. There was no variation in the quotations for fine crossbreds at the December and January sales, but compared with November, prices were lower by ljd to lsd. Medium crossbreds declined to 13d to 2d. Coarse crossbreds were extraordinarily high at the November sale, selling as well as fine crossbreds, probably because of the ken Continental demand that existed then. The drop in consequence has been very pronounced and ranges from 44.d to 4_d. Low crossbreds show the least change, the drop being 3d to l|d. At the November sale the average value of all grades of wool was approximately 13$ d per Ib, and at the January sale the average was lljd, a decline of 2d pea- lb, equal to about £3 per bale.
