MAGISTRATES AS CORONERS.
(To the Editor.; Sir, —"Taxpayer" opens up an important subject in connection with the duties of coroner". If. is time representations were made to the Minister of Justice in the matter. Magistrates have quite sufficient to attend to without this additional work. There are a number of aualified men who are fully capable of carrying out the duties of coroner in the cities and principal town?. Ido not think justices of the peace should be appointed jrenerally. Experience is a necessity in such work. I do not agree with "Taxpayer" in regard to the suppression of reports of inquests in cases of suicide. The thought of publicity and the pain caused to relatives and friends thereby very often, I think, atays the hand of a potential suicide, but •were knowledge of complete suppression from the public eye to exist, then, in ffl y opinion, the ratio of suicides would appreciably increase.—l am, etc.. r PUBLICO. •
