A RENEGADE GERMAN.
* ' i REWARD FOR DISLOYALTY, j HORDE OF ROYAL SPONGERS. i THE GRAAF AND FRAULEIN. (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.) (Received 11.S0 a.m.) BERLIN, January 13. I Although he renounced his. German nationality in 1914 and fought against Germany as a general, the Duke Karl Michael of Mecklenburg-Strelitz received in 1921 5,000,000 gold marks from the Mecklenberg Government for renouncing his claims to the Grand Ducal Throne. This is one of the interesting facts revealed before the legal committee of the Reichstag inquiring into Royal claims. Although members of the Mecklen-burg-Strelitz family have already obtained cash and property valued at 35,000,000 gold marks, they are now claiming a further 5,000,000. It also appears that the Berlin Court awarded a pension of 6000 marks yearly to a lady friend of the ex-Grand Duke. (Reuter.)
