BOULDER ON THE LINE.

j TRAIN'S NARROW ESCAPE i LANDSLIP IN THE NORTH. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) DARGAVILLE, this day. , A train bringing passengers from J Auckland to Pukehuia yesterday had a narrow escape from a serious smash when between Waiotira and Pukehuia. A storm was raging when a slip occurred, bringing down a very large boulder. The driver of the engine saw it coming down, and pulled up in the very nick of time, and although the engine hit the rock no damage was done. Passengers assisted in tiie heavy rain to clear the line. During the storm three-quarters of an inch of rain fell at Pukehuia in 25' minutes. Some parts of the district have had no rain to speak of, and in the last few days rain has done good to the pastures, gardens and feed. ■
