TROTTING.

WHEEL AND SADDLE NOTES. (BX ORION.)

FIXTURES FOR THE SEASON. December 12, 16—New Brighton Trotting Club. December 96—Gore Trotting Club. December 26—Ashburton iTrottinir Club. December S6, 28—Westport Trotting Club. December 26, 28—Soutb. Wairarapa Trotting Club. December 28, 30. 31—Auckland Trotting CluD. December 30 —Inanganua Trotting: Club. December 30—Wlnton Trotting Club. A two-year-old by El Carbine —Hondalee has l>een sold by Mr. B. Edwards to Mr. H. E. Standen, of Sydney. The pacer. Xagol Pointer, has changed ownership, and will in future be trained by J. Messervey, who also has that good mare Onyx. Acceptances for all events to be pun on the opening day of the Auckland Trotting Club's summer , meeting close to-day at 5 p.m. with the secretary, Mr. V. F' Mark. Paul Dufault. a brilliant pacer at his best, appears to have lost all form, and he has been thrown out of work and -eturned to his owner. The Harold Dillon gelding may not be raced again. D. Warren, who trains for Mr. H. F. Nicoll. will be doing meetings in the South Island at Christmas, and arrangements have been made for A. Hendricksen to bring Nantwk-h and Ayr to Auckland. ! Great Bingen's two wins at the Forbury meeting bring his earnings this seaeon up to £3655. With the season only now in full swing, he should get a lot more money yet. The Free For All at Auckland looks a good thing for him. It is estimated that the Waikato Trotting Club will show a profit of £400 on the club's recent' meeting. At the meeting of the committee on Wednesday, a letter was received stating that an Auckland sportsman had donated a gold cup, valued at 100 guineas, to the club. The Winton-bred pacer Logan Chief has been out of form for some time pas 4 ;, but he brightened up on the training track prior to the Forbury Park T.C. meeting, and a smart half-mile convinced his connections that he is going to "come back." Mr. Duffy's gelding is heavily engaged at the Auckland Trotting Club's summer meeting, and he may be ready to give of his best again when the Christmas meeting takes place at Alexandra Park. He paced well in the Free-for-All at Dunedin last week after getting away badly as one of the victims of a wretched start.

The erratic behaviour of the brilliant Oore-owned pacing mare. Fashion Queen, has been noted on quite a number of occasions, and to a great extent the cause has probably.now been accounted for, says a Dunedin writer. The mare's he.'ul troubled her recently and swelled up visibly. Eventually a clever veterinary surgeon took the case in hand and operated on the only descendant of Bellfashion known to the racing tracks. A large-amount of matter was extracted from the mare's head, and it is now hoped that she will- in \due course race as well as ever. It is surmised that Fashion Queen was struck on tlie head by a barrier when racing at Addington, as she returned to the birdcage after the ■ race in question with cuts showing, and they could not be accounted , for at the I time.

It is reported in the south that Great Bingen will journey to West Australia for the championship meeting to be held there next' year—a similar fixture to that at which Great Hope won the Australasian championship under various difficulties, including travel, a stallion fight, and a severe fall on the training track. Great Bingen will probably cross the spas to the Commonwealth after the Auckland T.C. Summer fixture to enable him to become |acclimatised prior to the W.A.T.C. meeting. It is understood that D. Wither 3 will not accompany the crack in tho meantime, Great Bingen's preliminary work being left in the hands of his regular attendant, who has had wide experience with the son of Kelson Bingen and Bertha Bell (imp.) by Peter the Great (2.07J, and one of the greatest sires ever known in America.) Bertha Bell was bred in Kentucky (U.S,A.) and imported to Xew Zealand* by Mr. E. R. Lelievre. who also imported Nelson Bingen to Maoriland.

The W.A. Trotting Association has distributed in stakes, aside from those given at Goldfields and country meetings, an amount of £247,067. The amount paid during the three years terminating on July 31, 1925, was' £89,505. Taxation following upon totalisator operations to the amount of f 142,090 has been paid since the machines have been operated at trotting meetings. During the past three years the payments in this particular amounted to £59.208. In subsidies to country clubs and agricultural societies throughout the State, in expenditure in the work of control by a, country organiser and in outlay in equipment of courses on the Goldfields and m the country, an amount of £15.049 has been spent. Up to date, the W.A. Trotting Association has distributed to charities £31,173. From five meetings held last season, charitable institutions benefited to the extent of £4159. A conservative estimate of the value of horses registered with the Trotting Association is £200,000, of which amouut £120.000 represents the value of hor=es imported to the State as a result of the Association's activities. The approximate value of horses at various stude and of outlay in stable equipment, etc., is £100,000. Horses already shipped from America, and which recently arrived in Australia, specially chosen from .the greatest strains of light harness : breeds in the world, and to be used for j breeding purposes in Western Australia, have incurred an outlay of at least £3000.
