POLICE COURT.
(Before Mr. ,T. W. Poynton, f>.M., and Mr. J. H. Fray, J.P.) INDECENCY. Robert Johneton (40), a seaman oft' the 6.5. Tekoa, was fined £3, in default seven days' imprisonment, for committing a grossly indecent act in Customs Street yesterday. A PETTY THIEF. A young man, Richard Bryan (24), pleaded guilty to several charges of theft, comprising two pairs of pliers', a hammer, pocket knife, tennis shoes, hrief hag and watch, of a total value of £1 0/C. Senior Detective TTammond, who prosecuted, stated that accused arrived in New Zealand from England about two yours ago, and had been working as an onginoer at Wcßtflold. While so employed, he stole the tools from his fellow workers. Later lie secured n job sit King's College. At thin place, he look a pocket knife, brief and a pair of tennis shoes. Bryan was a good worker, but evidently a potty thief. 110 did not attempt to dispose of the articles. Uryan said Mint he could not find an owner for tlio shops, so he won: them once. The shoes, knife and hag he would have returned to their owners had he found them. Mr. Poynton: Ho evidently I>a« tho Cdmmunistic feeling—what belongs to others belongs to him. Bryan was adinited to probation for a period of two years. FALSE DECLARATIONS. Tloliert Livingstone. Martin, a young man, who pleaded guilty to two charges of making false declarations to the registrar of marriages at Auckland, was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. The evidence given showed that accused gave the name of Jordan instead of Martin to obtain the certificate, while he also declared his mother's and father's name as Jordan. This was not correct. In a statement made to Detective White accused admitted that he gave the wrong name, while he was excited. He came to New Zealand on a I steamer from London and deserted. That was -why te changed iis name. I
