ALTERING COUNTY BOUNDARIES.

HAURAKI PLAINS AND PIAKO. (From Our Own Correspondent.) MORRIXSVILDE, Saturday. In order to discuss the claims of the Patetonga riding in wishing to break away from the Hauraki Plains County unci to become a part of the Piako County, members* of the two councils met at Patetonga and discussed the matter with the ratepttyere. The representatives of the Hauraki Plains County Council maintained that the charges that they had no-t treated the Patetonga riding fairly were unfounded. It was contended that Patetonga's community of interest lay northward, and this would be more marked when the Paeroa-Pokeno railway is put through. The ratepayers, however, contended that their outlet was southwards, towards Morrinsville, and would always be so, even with the construction of the railway line across the Hauraki Plains. Their goods came by water, and would always come by water, water transport .being more convenient and cheaper, as the Piako River flowed within a few miles of the township, from which there was a tramline to the landing. Another argument advanced was that they considered a proposed metalling scheme of £28,000 could be done more cheaply with metal and machinery from the Piako County than from, the Hauraki Plains County. Both councils have yet to consider the proposed secession.
