RUGBY FOOTBALL.
The Rugby Federation, which is the French equivalent of the Rugby Union of Britain, has got itself into a tangle over its engagements with New Zealand and Australia, says the Melbourne "Punch." It was recently cabled that the Frenchmen had decided to send a side to tour New Zealand in 1926, with probably a visit to New South Wales, now the only Rugby Union-playing State in Australia, tacked on. Now comes news that a New South Wales team is to be invited to France in the 1926-27 season, and one from New Zealand in 1927-28. If it comes off, it will be a fairly full programme, though the French visit to this side of the world is doubtful. Twice in recent years projected tours hitherward have been cancelled owing to the exigencies of military service. Many Rugby players in France become due for their two years' service with the colours every season. France ihas met New Zealand eight times and Australia three, losing every game, but has been much more successful against the British international teams. "It is quite possible, by the way, that the All Blacks may tour this country next year. Whilst this is not official, I believe there is some sort of suggestion fbeing put forward. Again, it is quite possible that South Africa may go to Britain in 1928. At the same time these suggestions are merely in the air, and I would not commit myself to saying that the tours will actually take place.
