. ~»_. .... _ CHOICE OT: A BISHOP. , ' CONFERENCE POSTPONED. ______ s . . {By Telegraph.—Press Association.)'. ~ WELLINGTON, Friday. The Aotearoa Maori Diocese Act,: which was passed by a special session of 'the General Synod of the Church-, of England on Thursday, creates a Maori diocese and Diocesan Synod. The Act; requires the Bishop of the Province to' meet the Maori Synod with a view of arranging for the ■ appointment of a Bishop.'to the newly-formed diocese. The. Act also provides .that, after discussion, the Bishops shall nominate not more, tljan three persons approved by Conference, one of whom must be chosen by. the Maori Synod. Ar'chbish'op'. Aver ill states that the Bishops of Wellington, Waiapu and Dunedin, and himself as Archbishop, duly met the Maori Synod in conference, but members of tlie Maori JSynod thought it wiser to postpone the conference until such time as they had been able to place all the matters, especially referred to by the Bishops, before the Maori people, "therefore it was decided that the conference should reassemble at a later date, probably in April, at Hamilton, when the Bishops of the Province will be ajrain gathered together for the consecration of the Bishop of Waikato. It is understood that up to the present time no names have been mentioned as nomihations for the office of Bishop of the new Maori Diocese.
