FIRE INSURANCE.

(To the Editor.) . Sir, —I notice in your paper of yesterday's date, December 3, that the above institution is to allow a rebate in the fhape of a bonus of 12$ per cent off all fire premiums on and after January 1 Wxt. This bonus replaces the 10 per cent rebate allowed by all insurance companies for. the last twelve months, and the 15 per cent rebate for the twelve ttonths preceding that. The announcer Went referred to should act as a good advertisement for the State Fire Office, end-I cannot help wondering why a similar announcement was not made b> other New Zealand insurance companies, as I am reliably informed that a similar resolution was passed some days ago by the Council of New Zealand Fire TJnder■ffriters' Associations. An admirable opportunity appears to have been missed -> for pushing the claims of insurance companies who are members of the above council for increased business, as in these days of keen competition it is a bad policy to let the other fellow make an announcement of this nature first. As a member of the insuring public I am more than pleased at the continued bonus to be paid by all companies, and }ye have to give a vote of thanks to the insurance companies for taking thjg step, and further for reducing the Tates in certain districts. It is not perhaps generally known that this rate reduc. tion is to become effective from the commencing of the new year. My authority wfonns mc that this is co, and that Bemuera, Epsom, Mount Albert, Grey -Lynn, Arch Hill, EUerslie and North «>te are among the suburbs to be benefited by the reduction, and certain out■we towns—Te Awamutu, Whangarei, uisborne, Paeroa, Rotorua, Tauranga and others— will also feel the benefit of the reduced rate. This being so, why is not the public advised accordingly, instead of having to find these matters •Ut for itself T—l am, etc., POLIOYHOLDEEi
