ANSWERS TO CORRESPONDENTS. BUSH LAWYER.—As far as I can ascertain from her owner, just over £25 was the highest amount. Certainly nothing like the sum you mention. It was at Ellerslie. Subjection is stated to have run very poorly at Feilding on Monday. Uralla showed up till the entrance to th_ straight in the concluding event of the Takapuna meeting but failed to see it out. Admiral Codrington is stated to have run a good race in the Hurdles at Feilding on Monday and may perhaps be worth following. Mah Jong, owned by Mr. A. B. Williams, was raced at the Feilding meeting, and, according to southern reports, he should soon be seen to advantage. Billikins should win further races at the country fixtures. He showed a good deal of pace at Te Rapa and Devonport in his engagements. Daylight ran fairly well at Takapuna, and may be hard to dispose of in forthcoming engagements. He has a fair amount of pace and can sprint well. Clarus appeared to be one of the most promising juveniles at Ellerslie early in the spring, but he has gone off, and ran two disappointing races at Takapuna. Bonogne was unlucky in the Empire Welter at Feilding on Monday, for he got into a good deal of trouble and nearly came down entering the straight. Many jColours showed improved form in the Hurdles at Feilding on Monday and he will be in demand for similar engagements in the near future. He is more than useful. Askari which won the Feilding Cup on Saturday, is stated to be very badmannered at the post> and, according to a southern writer, it is understood he is to .be placed on the schooling list. Adavale, a three-year-old filly by Limond—lntrigue, owned by Mr. G. M. Gurrie, got on the winning list at Feilding. She had run third on the previotis day and on Monday won easily. Rouex should be difficult to dispose of in forthcoming engagements. At Feilding on Monday he was going much better than Lady Bentick in the Colyton Handicap and the latter was lucky to beat him. Ballymoy H. has a lot of speed, but jußt fails to win a race. At Takapuna she was third in the Plate and second in th . Cautley Handicap, and she should certainly be seen to better advantage before long. Garzon did not show to advantage at the Takapuna meeting. . His stable companion, Highway, however, won in most convincing style and, therefore, the trip was not an unprofitable one for C. Morse. Eh Timi, a four-year-old gelding- by Polydamon— Rewanga, was produced on a couple of occasions at the Takapuna meeting. He is a grey, and though he Sailed to win he may prove useful at country fixtures. "Rafa is just as big a pest as ever at tho barrier and as a jumper he is a burlesque. The story that he can jump well is a gross exaggeration." In these words "Vedette" sums up Rafa as a hurdler at Feilding. Civility was started at Takapuna on Monday, and though she showed up for a while in the Cautley Handicap she was never dangerous when it came to racing. Civility is a good sprinter, and her turn should not be far'off. Of the fifty-one handicapped in the Auckland Cup, thirty of them are in at the minimum, and it does not look as though there will be a big field when •the horses go to the post. In the Railway" Handicap there are 81 entered and forty-two are in with 7.0. Te Koroke, which is trained by W. 6 tone at Avondale, is a three-year-old by Humbug from Tigritiya, the winner of the A.R.'C. Railway Handicap in 1919. He was started at Takapuna "but failed to get into a place. If breeding counts for anything he should be able to gallop. Scat, which returned his supporters such a long price at Takapuna when he ran second, is a four-year-old gelding by Day Comet and is trained by W. Cathro at Avondale. Previous to.the Takapuna meeting he had only started once—in the Gordon Handicap at the A.R.C. epring meeting last season.

At Feilding on Monday there was a rumour on the course that Suggestion, ■which broke a blood vessel in the Feilding Cup on Saturday, had died. His trainer, J. Farmer, stated that the horse "was quite fit and apparently well enough to race again, but he was not take any risks with him. Tamatete won the Feilding Stakes for i the third year in succession, but he was j downed by Motley in the Oroua Stakes on j Monday. Although he Is now aged he j still retains his brilliancy. • Standard, which finished third in the j Oroua Stakes at Feilamg on Monday, ( is stated to have run a surprisingly good l race, and he is one that should be kept | in mind for future events. [ The Lamb fully bore out the form he | showed at Ellerslie and Te P.apa, when he accounted for two races at the Feilding meeting. In the Empire Welte- on Monday he was always in a handy position, and scored by half a length. Peter Maxwell ran two good races at j the Takapuna meeting, and his win on j the second day was full of merit, for he was conceding Chirrup, which ran him to a head, 331b. It was largely due to : Rennie's horsemanship that he beat Chirrup. Xamutere was started on a couple of occasions at Takapuna and finished third ' and fourth respectively in his engage- j ments. It is a long time since the son of Beragoon won a race, but he looks as though he may do better before long, j Motley, by her defeat of Tamatete in ! the Oroua Stakes at Feilding, appears as ■ though she has regained the brilliancy i she possessed as a two-year-old. She had the measure of Tamatete at the top of the straight, and won nicely by two lengths. With 7.10 in the A.R.C. Rail- I way Handicap she is one of the pos- : sibilities.

(By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") | CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. | Gay Queen and Serotina were the only | double winners at the South Canterbury Jockey Club's meeting last week, but the form or several other runners was good. Projector won once, and was second once.' Wharncliffe ran a second and a third, Royal ', Despatch a second and a third, Corn Money I a flrst and a second, Sarty two thirds, His. Majesty a second and a third, Monoxide a ! second and a third, Receipt two seconds, Cornllower a flrst and a second, Miss ■ Winkie a second and a third, and Eaton Bells a first and a second. I Mr. G. Clarldge's stable, as has Kilris, which has been spelling ror a rew weeks. •■*'<■ The form of- both Gay Queen and Royal Despatch, since, being taken, up by| Clarldge, has been a good advertisement Tor that trainer, and it should not be long berore he gets a really userui team round him. It Is reported that there Is a probability j or R. W. King taking Sun Up to Auckland Tor the summer meeting at Ellerslie,. as the I gelding's trainer, A. McAulay contemplates 1 a Southern trip at the same period with' Tarieton. | Rlccarton stables will be represented ln, various parts or the Dominion during the' approaching holiday period, and different trainers have expressed their Intention of doing the West Coast meetings, some the Manawatu and Marton meetings, and others again the summer meeting at Ellerslie. ! I Gay Queen, by winning at the South Canterbury Jockey Club's Spring Meeting last week, is Ineligible to start In the Springfield Trial Plate at the Methven meeting. Gay Gauntlet, an aged gelding by Buff Gauntlet rrom Roslne, is a recent addition' to J. B. Pearson's team. | Rlccarton stables were strongly repre-1 sented at the South Canterbury Jockey I Clubs Spring Meeting, and horses rrom' these parts won twelve out of the sixteen! events decided, besides running to minor places thirteen times. I The rain, which commenced last night' and continued till the early hours this morning, will do a lot of good to the tracks, and the course proper at Rlccarton should be in excellent order Tor the Methven Racing Club's annual meeting on Saturday. A. McAulay has again taken up his two-year-old gelding by Clarencuex rrom Hornbeam. Jubilant has been bought by Mr. D. H. Roberts, and the Gay Lad filly l is now a member or F. Christmas' team I Nothing definite has yet been decided! about Listening Post's projected trip to' Auckland, but the Soirerlno gelding Is I working the reverse way at Invercargill. ir he fulflls his Auckland Cup engag-ement' he will go North with Rlccarton trainer, T. H. Glllett, whose team will probably include Money Order, Count Cavour, Glentruln, and Celerity 11. Fresco, Victory Bond, and Sup Up will go out ravourltes Tor their respective engagements at the Methven Racing Club's annual meeting, to be held at Rlccarton I on Saturday. The club has received very good acceptances, taken all round, and it is to be hoped that the change ,of venue' will be instrumental in placing the country I club oma fairly sound footing again.
