WAIKATO RIVER TRADE

fFrom Our Own Correspondent.) MERCER, this day. The plans of the Roose Shipping Company for the development of the Waikato River trade are being steadily put into operation. Three new wharves, decided upon some little time ago, are now to be built. That at Huntly will be commenced this week,. and will be followed in due course by wharves at Taupiri and Hamilton. At the latter place the plans provide for a wharf 250 feet long, enabling both hatches of the company's new cargo steamer, Rawiti, to be worked simultaneously. 1 The site chosen upon is just above the traffic bridge. At Mercer, where some fifty men are regularly employed, it has been decided to build houses for the married couples. Negotiations for the purchase of five acres'- of land, suitable for the purpose, are now well advanced.
