RED CROSS FUNDS.
A NOUGHT TOO MANY. GOVERNMENT NOT BLAMABLE. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.! CHRISTCHURCH. this day. With reference to a Press Association message sent out from Dunedin stating, "The action of the Government in retaining the sum of £300,000, which the British Red Cross returned to -he Xew Zealand Society at the termination of the war was adversely criticised byMr. J. A. Flesher." Mr. Fleshcr says the Government was not referred to in the discussion at the meeting of the Red Crosk executive, nor was tiie amount involved £300,000. but £30.000. The sum given by the British Red Cross has not only been received, but has also been invested by the Xew Zealand Society, and the income has been used to defray costs incidential to Red Cross scholarships. Any criticism offered had relation to the apparently inconsistent administration of the 'War Funds Department.
