MOTOR REPAIRS.
VERY COSTLY RUNNING. CITY COUNCIL VEHICLES. Exclusive of the cost of tyre?, repairs to 19 motor buses run by the City Council for the twelve months ended March last' cost no less than £1903. Thirteen motor ears were included in this list, four of Which had from £120 to £H>2 expended on them. Of the six trucks, one had cost £400 and another £257 in repairs. The Stores Committee of the Council recommended thftt in view of this heavy bill the matter of repairs being in future carried out at the tramway depot bo considered. Some of the enrs. in the opinion of Mr. Warnock. were "junk," which no private firm would use. and they ought to be placed on the scrap heap. It was suggested by Mr. C. F. Bennett that ai>. arrangement should be come to with car agents whereby cars could be replaced with new vehicles every few years, this scheme being followed by many private firms. It was explained by Mr. Dempsey that some of the worst curs in the list had already been discarded. Jt was decided , to see if arrangements could not lie mitdc to have repairs effected at the tramways depot in future.
