THE SEPTEMBER QUARTER,

WELLINGTON, Thursday. « Customs duties for the quarter ended ■:>tember 30 amounted to £2,125,316, an . -Tease of f 110,390 over the corresponding period of last year. The whole of the increase shown is under the heading general tariff," others showing a decrease. The principal items last quarter were: £P;nts, £317,379; cigarettes, f 150,801 j British preferential , tariff, £682,503; general tariff, £510,285. In excise duty beer paid £143,291, against £146,424 the previous qmarter.
