AUCKLAND COURT AT THE EXHIBITION.

„ , ] (To the Editor.) | Kir, —I have just returned from Hie South and while there I spent a day at the Exhibition grounds and noted the preparations in progress: I was struck with the extensive scale on which everything lias been planned and the support overseas countries and the Dominion are giving to it, as also I the splendid courts of Wellington, Canterbury, Southland. and other ( districts, not to speak of Otago itself. As an Aueklander, I expected to see the most prosperous, most wealthy | and most progressive province making the most elaborate showing. Xot so— ( every thing was poor compared with the other provinces, and the preparations meagre in the extreme. The position of the court is good and I am satisfied , that what is being done is the beat : obtainable for the small suiri available. ! Much credit is therefore due to those responsible for the work in progress. ■ The cause is evidently lack of funds alone. Auckland City Council, local bodies and business men have utterly failed to realise what the exhibition is and its potential value to our great city land the province as a whole. In a word, the court is starving for the necessary funds to enable--the' work to be carried out in a manner compatible with the dignity of our Queen City of the North. I hope it is not too late for the necessary steps to be taken to relieve the anxiety of the executive committee on the score of the needful cash. I could fill a column with the potentialities of the Auckland Province and the need to make them known, but this is not necessary, I am sure. It is a case of "that lie who gives quickly gives twice." May I, Sir, plead- for your hearty, support in I this matter. —I am, etc., J AUCKLANDER.
