ART UNION MONEY THEFT.
THREE YEARS' PROBATION. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday. A man with a good war record had his war wounds set down as the indirect cause of a theft to which he pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's Court to-day. The man. Nathaniel John Reed, aged 37, pleaded guilty to a charge of having failed to account for £26 9/to B. N. R. McDonald, of Wanganui. Chief Detective Gibson said accused had collected the money in connection with an art union conducted in Wanganui. He had a good war record, and was respected until he began to lead a fast life. Accused was admitted to three years' probation.
