MANUREWA NOTES.

■ TOWN BOARD MEETING. An ordinary meeting of the Town Board was held on Monday evening, the following members being present: Messrs. A. C. A. Sexton (chairman), Cox, McCallum, Fawcett and Whyte. Great South Road.—The engineer (Mr. Lopdell) reported on the conference between the engineers of the local bodies and those of the Highways Board; also a conference between the chairman of the local bodies and the Highways Board, when Mr. Sexton asked the Board if they would make a straight-ont offer of £4000 per mire, to which a reply was awaited. Messrs. Osborne and Elman presented a petition asking that a poll be taken on this question. It was agreed that, ln the event of the petition being ln order, the procedure be put in hand to have the poll taken. Resignation.—Mr. Fawcett reported that he had interviewed Mr. Bntterworth. who had informed him that he had decided to adhere to his decision to resign. It was decided 'that the resignation be accepted with regret, and that a letter be forwarded expressing the board's appreciation of the services Mr. Butter—orth had rendered to the district. An election to fill the vacancy will be held-In conjunction with the polling on the unimproved value question. By-law Offences. —The foreman reported that seven cases were heard at Papakura on October 28. A conviction was recorded nnd a fine inflicted in each case. None of the defendants appeared. Building Permits. —During October five permits were issued, to the value of £ 2660. BOWLING. The local club held its official opening on Saturday last. The president (Mr. Teoland) conducted the opening, and at the conclusion of his remarks Mrs. Teoland threw the jack, and the greens were declared open for play. In the course of his address the president referred to the assistance rendered to the clnb by Mr E. T Bntterworth, and on behalf of his fellowbowlers made a presentation of a set of bowls. Mr. C. A Fawcett replied on Mr. Butter - orth's behalf. CROQUET. The Croquet Clnb also held its official opening, a large number of ■"siting ladles being present. The president (Mrs. F. Whyte) gave a neat address, and expressed the ladies' appreciation of Mr. Butterworth's work on the lawns, by presenting him with a leather bowl case. Mr. A. C. A. Sevton (chairman of the .Town Board) replied on Mr. Bntterworth s behalf, nnd referred to the very attractive anrwaranee of the club's grounds.
