Renter's Tangier correspondent say 3 advices from Arab and French sources show that the moving spirit behind the Riff resistance is an ex-captain of - the Prussian Guard, who joined "the French Foreign Legion before the war as the result of a scandal. He became a sergeant and deserted to the Riffians in 1921. Ten German deserters from the Riffs surrendered this week. They complain bitterly of Abd-el-Krim's harshness, and declare that he shoots the fainthearted without the slightest compunction. The Riffian chief of artillery Is a former Serbian colonel.— ( Reuter.)
