Word was received in Whangarei j c j yesterday of the unexpected death of ; , Mr. John Wilkinson, at Kohukohu. j 1 ; where he passed away in his sleep at ' the age of 50. He had complained the i previous day of a chest pain. Deceased J wa.* one of the best known men in the north and was regarded as a man of ] , the highest integrity. At the time of . j his death he was acting as accountant lat King's sawmill. He was at one time j proprietor of the Whangarei Sawmills. and was regarded as one of the best j , j authorities on 'bush, timber in the north. | ! For many years he was chairman of the i Whangarei School Committee and he was responsible for many reforms and ; ( I benefits now enjoyed by residents. An I inquest is not- necessary.
