DOWN THE WAIKATO.
. RAWHITTS MAIDEN TRIP. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) HAMILTON, this day. A large party of "business and public body men accompanied the Rawhiti, the new 300-ton steamer of the Roose Shipping Co., on her maiden trip from Hamilton to Mercer to-day. The vessel, which is 180 feet long and 38 feet wide, was specially constructed for the peculiar conditions of the Waikato River. When ! fully loaded with 300 tons she will I draw only 3 feet 6 inches. Being only 38 feet high when light, she is able to pass under the half-dozen bridges along the 100-mile route from Cambridge to Port Waikato. The trip was made under ideal weather conditions, which enabled the visitors to enjoy 50 miles of unrivalled river scenerj-, and to see the potentialities from the tourist and commercial standpoint of this great stream. Many of the guests took cars aboard and motored back to Hamilton from different ports of call. Among the Auckland visitors were: Messrs. W. H. Murray, W. F. McCallum, M. H. Wynyard, G. Parr, E. W. Inder, Captain Hammond, Messrs. W. Holderness, W. Blomfield, T. Walsh, T. George, W. J. Buckley, A. Foster, G. H. Metcalf, R. Mayo and W. R. Elliogham.
