IRON HAND IN EGYPT.
DECREE AGAINST SOCIETIES. A THREAT OF REVOLUTION. CAIRO, October 30. Consternation has been created by the issue'of a Royal decree, which orders all political organisations in .Egypt to make a declaration in regard to their headquarters and membership within one month. A prominent politician has declared this to be a most reactionary measure, and one which is likely. to have very grave results. It may, he says, lead to the reappearance of secret societies. There is reason to believe the Zaghlulists, Liberals, and Watanists will ignore the decree and defy the Government. 'The Opposition organ, "Alsiassah," asks whether the new High Commissioner (Sir George Lloyd) is concerned in making the decree, which is calculated to | drive the country to revolution.—ReuteiV
