Ryan rode Tea Time in the t two-year-old parade at Te Rapa. 1 It will cost about 14/ to go 'to the 1 Te Aroha trots to-morrow, but "Why Worry? Stanmoor showed a good turn of speed , for a mile at the recent meeting .of, the I, Auckland Trotting Glub, and the boat: ) pany he will meet at Te Aroha is not i nearly so good. s . Grey Peter is the only one of A, £ Newdick's team engaged at Te Aroha. i The grey gelding is racing, consistently, • but without luck, and appears- to be I just on the mark which brings about > his defeat. r • . f Dillon Huon is freely engaged at the - Te Aroha Trotting Club's meeting to- . morrow. It is only a question of the chestnut leaving the mark right to get the money. He is only a young horse, and with, a little time will be pretty ■ good. Not a few in Auckland were prepared to read that Granite City and. Golden Devon had won at Oamaru on Monday, j and the defeat of the pair wpuld not be [ appreciated. They' started warm ifav- ; ourites in th,e race, but neither secured a place. ..,'. .. , '..,,'*' J S. Stevens comes over to. Epsom occa j sionally from Devonport with Leewood. The Wildwood Junior gelding "was not ready to run out a solid race from end to end last meeting,, but he showed pace j while his condition stood. He will be a „ much improved horse at the Otuhuhu j meeting. The principal handicap at the Oamaru £ Trotting Club's,meeting on Monday was • won by Black Admiral, trained by M. ■ B. Edwards, of Canterbury. The son of 3 Brent'Locanda wae second favourite, and won easily by four lengths. The track was slow, and the winner had only to ' go 4m 435. '! Last season it was whispered about . at more than one meeting that Black . Pearl was above .-the ordinary; but the pacer proved bad on the mark. She ran one good race at the Thames meeting after losing a lot of ground at the start, and if she has settled down at all she may be a good sort,, ' - - • The American .trotter, Judge Hancock, I appears to be useful, and another win went to his credit at Oamaru, when he " was sent out a good favourite and won j the Waitaki Trot nicely -'by three a lengths,, going 4m 55 2-5s on a slow. . heavy track. Judge Hancock is one of y B. Jarden's team. g c J. Shaw deserves to win a race witli j the trotter Peter McDonald. The gelding g receives every attention, and nevei looked better, but he does not go ftf f solid in a race as in training. Possiblj f he gets on his toe's when the crowd ii a present, and' the scene is much mor< rr animated than in the early mornings. a R. A. McMillan is one of the most c successful trainers of trotters and pacere i. in the Auckland province, and he rarely t goes through a meeting without earning "> a cheque. He has Childo Audubon, Bin- - gen Star and Roe Bell engaged to-mor-s row. He is not the sort of trainer to c waste time with useless animals, and V .Bingen Star may be worth considering 1 in the" Waitoa-Handicap. c ' ' ..'■. . — :* Rockburn, which is trained by J. • O'Kane at Epsom, but which has been v taken to Te Aroha by A. Julian, is trot- . ting rather well in his training. He , was previously a pacer, and as a rule - "it'is not a good proposition to convert • pacers .into trotters', 'because they are 'invariably light marks as the result of t records r with the straps on. Rockburn c may be worth consideration later in the season. s It is on the cards that the whole of f» the nine acceptors for the Tβ Aroha . Trotting Cup will line up at the post c to-morrow. - Buz Buz ..-was responsible t for an attractive work-out over twe . miles yesterday with Lord Nepean, and V as the bay mare has shown she can gc . two miles it is difficult to select one - to beat her. Daphne Wildwood may be - difficult to dispose of, but all things . considered, S. August should have a i comfortable drive behind Buz Buz. i Mr. J. Br' Sheehan's ..trio, Machine . Brick, Auto Machine, and Flying T -Machine, ".which , arrived in AuckJ land on-, 'Tuesday, are to be I taken on to Christchurch to-day to compete at the Metropolitan ' Trotting Club's meeting. Machine Brick , has a record of 2m 11 Js for a mile, made - at Victoria.Park, and 3m 17As for a mile T arid a-half, made at Tipping on July 27 ?■ last. ■ Auto Machine's best record'is , 2m E 163s for-a mile,.-.--while .'Flying.Machine 1 has 3m 32s for a mile and a-half. Auto X Machine is said to 'be one of, the fastest • pacers at his age, arid lie should do well 2 here.
Roller has arrived- at Ellerslie from New Plymouth. W. Rayner is expected to arrive at Ellerslie next Tuesday. He will probably bring three horses. A. Driscoll will ride Cawnpore, Winsome Boy, Right and Left and Uralla at the Auckland spring meeting. Plain Sailing, the three-year-old half sister to Wassail, is again in work at Hastings, but will not be asked to race for dome time. Bulford has been on the easy list at Awapuni for some time, and it is thought that all is not right with the eon' of Strowan. It is expected that Gold Light will soon be able to make her reappearance on the training tracks as the injury she received is not seriou3. Queen Arch, which won the Avondale Guineas, vis going, along all right in her track-.work at Ellerslie, and can be looked to. to' run a good race in the Great .Northern Guineas. When.Mr.- W. H. ,Ga.isford won the Wellesley, Stakes at Trentham with -Commendation this marked his first success in that race, though hia father had won the event with Crowhurst in 1916. Ngawati, who is by Autumn, was brought north to the Avondale meeting, and showed a bit of pace in his races. He was started at Gisborne yesterday and won the Maiden Scurry ;in good style. -. ■ ■.; ;.( ' Lady Cavendish is again in work at Hawera aiid is looking very well as the result of her spell. She wae the best, two-year-old last season and should win good races this season, for she has plenty of pace. J. Anderton, ' who formerly held Passionate on lease and trained him, has since purchased him. Passionate was a good proposition for Anderton. and there is no doubt that he will do him further good service. Te Kara has been sent from Trentham to Riccarton.. He will, have a good many admirers when he faces the barrier in the New.Zealand Cup, for the racing he has had at Trentham will do him a great deal. of good, and he should be very fit on the day. Nancy Lee won again at Gisborne yesterday. She ia one of the most consistent horses racing in New Zealand this season, for she has faced the barrier on nine occasions for three wins, five seconds and a third. She is engaged at the Auckland meeting. It appears that reason for the scratching of Nigger Minstrel for Wellington and Riccarton engagements was due to 'tendon trouble. The ailment is in the leg that had previously given no trouble, and not in the one that was the cause of his retirement early last season. It is stated 'that Kaiti is to go to Riccarton for the New Zealand Cup meeting. Kaiti certainly showed . pace as a two-year-old last season, and at the recent Wellington meeting ran well in his races, being, prominent till the straight on eachjjecasion. Kaiti should win; ft handicap before long. Star Ranger has arrived for the Mitchelson 'Cup, and on his Avondale form, when he won the Avondale Cup and finished second in the Plumpton Handicap, he must be given a good chance. He ,had to be eased in his work for a while after his return to Trentham owing to an injury, but he should be at his best to-niorrow week: Princess Ronnie, the full sister to Princess Nata, was taken to Gisborne for the Poverty Bay Turf Club's meeting and won the Junction Handicap yesterday. She is a four-year-old by Polydamon—Waiorewa, and this is her second victory, her previous success being in the Grey Handicap, the concluding event on the Auckland Racing Club's last summer programme. TE AROHA TROTTING CLUB. ANNUAL 'MEETING TO-MORROW. The annual meeting of the Te Aroha Trotting Club will be held to-morrow, and, though the fields do not promise to be very large, the acceptances received for the various events are such as to provide a good day's sport. This will be the first of the season's circuit of country meetings, and owners of horses which are not quite good enough to win in the city are not likely to overlook the small fixtures. Arrangements have been made for a special train to leave Auckland to-morrow at 6.20 a.m., returning the same day.
