POLICE COURT.
(Before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.) DISORDERLY WHILE DRUNK. For being disorderly while drunk in Newmarket yesterday, William Henry Munday (57) was fined £1, or three days' imprisonment. BROKE HIS PROHIBITION ORDER. "This man has a list of 15 previous convictions, including several for breach of his prohibition order," said SubInspector Rawle about William Cant (51), who was charged with drunkenness in Victoria Street and with procuring liquor while prohibited. For being drunk Cant was fined 10/ or 48 hours, and for breach of his order he was fined £2, or 14 days. LENIENCY ABUSED. Three charges were brought against John McKay (33), who appeared in the dock with botli eyes blackened. They were, being found drunk in Queen Street, using obscene language, and damaging a constable's nether garments, valued at £2 10/. ' McKay pleaded guilty to the drunkenness charge, but explained that he did not recollect having made use of the language. Constable Allan stated that he saw accused, who was drunk, dancing about on the footpath. Witness warned McKay to make himself scarce. Two seamen caught hold of him to lead him away from trouble, but McKay left his mates aiid came up behind witness, striking him on the face. Witness then closed with accused and threw him. It was while lie was on the ground that McKay used the obscene language. Mr. Hunt: You gave him a chance to get away first, constable? —Yes, sir. Sub-Inspector Rawle: A case of leniency abused, your Worship. Mr. Hunt asked accused if he had anytiling to say. McKay: Yes, sir, I was drunk. These two black eyes will show you how the policeman treated mc. Sub-Inspeetoi Rawle informed the magistrate that accused was previously known to the police. Some time ago he was sentenced to two months' imprisonment for assauit. Mr. Hunt fined McKay fl on the first charge, gave him 14 days on the second, and ordered him to pay for the damage to the constable's trousers, in default 14 days. FURTHER CHARGES PENDING. John Leslie Buckley (22), alias Herbert Leslie Buckley, who'was arrested at Ngatea by Detective A. Moon, appeared on a eharjre of breaking and entering the shop of Thomas Rupert Boles, Bead! Boad. Point Chevalier, and stealing wearing apparel of a total value of £218 5/.
On the application of Chief Detective Cuinniings, who said that further charges were pending, accused was remanded until October 22.
