The St. Leger victory of Solario would be generally popular, particularly in Lancashire, as the colt's owner. Sir. John Rutherford, Bart., is a native of Blackburn, and at one time represented one of the divisions of the County Palatine in Parliament (says an Knglish writer). John obtained possession of the son of Gainsborough and Sun Worship, the price paid being 3500gs. —a capita! bargain as things have turned out. Mi. John, who is a member of the Jockey Club, is keen on golfing and shooting as well as racing. Reginald Day, the trainer of Solario, is a son of F. W. Day, who came from Australia and trained several winners in this country. "Reggie" himself has had a wide and varied experience in different parts of the world.
