OBITUARY.

* ■ _ _" MR. J. S. PHILLIPS. (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, .this day. The death of Mr. John Stephens Phillips took place suddenly at Waihi Hospital on Thursday night following on collapse due to heart trouble. Deceased, who came from Cornwall 40 years ago. had followed the teaching profession for many years, including six years in Waihi as assistant master and master. He was a man of genial disposition, keenly sympathetic, and interested in children. * He was popular with the townspeople and loved by his little, charges. Mr. Phillips is survived by a widow (who is a daughter of the late Mr. John H. Mandeno, of Te Awamutu) and two children. The funeral took place this afternoon, those present including representatives of the Masonic Lodge.
