SHORTLAND STREET P.O. SITE.
COUNCIL'S OFFER OF £100,000. NOT ACCEPTABLE TO GOVERNMENT. Recently the Auckland City Council made an offer of £100,000 for the Shortland Street Post Office site. At last night's meeting of the Council advice was received from the Minister of Public "Works (the Hon. J. G. Coates) stating that this offer could not be accepted by the Government. On the Mayor's motion the letter was received and referred to the City Solicitor.
