The City Librarian reported that twenty one volumes of general literature were presented to the Library from the estate of the late Dr. T. W. Leys. Mr. W. Cecil Leys donated five volumes of general literature and eighteen novels. D.S.C. and Cousins and Cousins, Ltd, wrote asking that parking in Kitchener street be prohibited, the street being only twenty-two feet wide, access to their premises being often difficult. The Chief Traffic Inspector reported that despite the tact that there was a parking prohibited disc placed in the area for the guidance of motorists, vehicles were left standing in proximity to several manufacturing estnblshmenta throughout the day, thereby causing congestion. Apart from the inconvenience to the business community caused by the parking of cars in this locality, in the event of fire, it would be difficult for the brigade to get to the fire expedltiouslv if the roadway was narrowed by parked cars. Kitchener Street was not a prohibited parking area, but it was apparent that that portion of the street to the east of the intersection of Courthouse Lane should be included in the prohibited parking areas.—The matter was referred to the . Works Committee. The City Engineer (Mr. W. E. Bush) submitted progress reports in connection with the street works being carried out in the city. Progress had been well maintained in connection with the Streets Improvement Loan, 1925, as shown under the heading of the different districts, but it was interesting to note that up to the present time since work was started in January, over 80.000 feet of kerbine and channelling hart been laid in streets ■ distributed principally ns follows — I'nrnoll, 4795 lineal feet ; Arch Hill, 2}fi.'i • limy Lynn. f>S44 ; Remuera, 35,403 • Erti-n CbSr, \f&.
