THIEVES' HAUL IN U.S.A. EX-CROOK AIDS POLICE. CARDINAL'S BROTHER ROBBED (By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright.; (Iteeeived 12.30 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 14. There has been a series of sensational robberies at San D.omingo. Mr. Merry Del Val, brother of the famous Cardinal, has been robbed of priceless royal decorations, also jewels worth £10,000, from his hotel apartments. Mrs. Donahue's pearls, valued at 680,000 dollars, were stolen from the Metropolitan Hotel. The detectives failed to obtain the faintest clue regarding the latter, until a "reformed crook" opened negotiations with them, allegedly offering to return the pearls if 100,000 dollars' reward were paid and no questions asked.— ("Sun.")
