THE BUTTER MARKET.
SHARP DROP IN PRICES. ' The virtual removal of the strike menace has resulted in a sharp drop in the price of New Zealand butter on the London market. On September 17 quotations were from 202/ to 204/ per cwt. with a market that was firm in accordance with conditions that are usual at this season of the year. Then came the fear that the continuation of the j strike would curtail supplies and brisk speculation rushed the price up to 234/, ! at which figure Now Zealand butter was , quoted on October 3. Since sailings ' have been resumed there has been a cor- j responding decline in prices and to-day's quotations are from 210/ to 220/ with no buyers. Messrs. Joseph Nathan and Company have received to-day the following cable ' from their London office:—New Zealand butter, 210/ to 220/. Nominal holders pressing sales. No buyers.
