KEEP ANIMALS WELL FED.
The animals which a breeder raises with intent to sell as surplus styck, and from which he, many times, derives a large source of his farm income, should bv°all means be liberally fed. "it pays to keep every farm animal in sufficiently good flesh at all times to ensure maximum efficiency in the way of production and growth, but it pays doubly and trebly to be liberal in feeding those animals which are to be sold. Time and time again the moral is repeated; at every auction sale it is obvious that the lack of feed has reduced the seller's proceeds. A well-filled form pleases the purchasers' eye, it shows the possibilities of the animal which it has up for sale, as it can be shown in no other way. Given the best pedigree in the world, a high production record and a form emaciated and thin from lack of feed, and the animal will bring but a fraction of the price which she could command were she in good flesh —if she appealed to the eye. But it is not only necessary that an animal receive an abundance of feed. It must also be given tlie feed which properly nourishes, and which enables it to perform its work or function successfully. There must be protein, minerals, carbo-hydrates, fats, vitamins and the other essentials to growth and production,' and they must be supplied in the most palatable form and appetising form. The successful farmer, dairyman, grazier or breeder is he who has "the ability properly to feed his live stock. He is the man who knows what to feed, how much to feed, and when to feed. To the breeder who is in business for the profitable production .of milk and butterfat. or who is in the business of rearing breeding stock to sell to others, or who combines the two, we can but urge that he feed his cattle liberally, intelligently, and as economically, of course, as is possible. Proper feeding methods applied to any animal breed as a unit would be of great value to tha individual breeders and to the breed as a, whole.
