WRESTLING.

A WORLD'S CHAMPION. WALTER MILLER AT TOWN' HALL. Wrestling has never caught on with the public of Xew Zealand, and it was thought the appearance of "Walter Miller, the world's middle-weight champion, at the Town Hall last evening would at least draw a fair house. However, as at other wrestling carnivals, the attendance was distinctly disappointing, and there were not more than a couple of hundred all tola present, ihe Preliminaries. Two lads. 'Hill and Campbell, met in a scheduled three rounds of five minutes each, but Hill, the lugger boy, secured two straight falls and won. J. Fulton and Tennant College (welters) delighted those present with a clever and suappv exhibition over three three-minute rounds. The first round saw College the aggressor all through, but he never looked like securing a fall. In the second round College had Fulton trapped with a scissors hold, but Fulton cleverly got out. There was some hard wrestling in the final round, neither securing a fall, and a draw was declared. Itfessrs. Wilson (instructor at the V.M.C.A.) and Bidmead provided an enjoyable and interesting turn in an exhibition of clever balancing and tumbling. They also showed various wrestling holds, blocks and counters. 1 The Champion. There was a good round of applause when Walter Miller, world's champion middleweight, appeared. He had offered to forfeit £10 if he failed to throw C. Brown (13st) in three ten-minute rounds. Miller's banking account was never threatened, as it was quite apparent when the pair got. busy that Brown was not in the same class as the champion. Miller went to work at once and secured a wrist and head hold, but Brown got out of it. Miller then got a scissors and face hold, but lost the latter, only to straddle Brown, and get a head hold. It iooked as though Miller secured a fall as he pinned Brown to the mat, but Brown turned over like a cat. However he was soon in trouble again, as Miller immediately bad him on the mat. and secured a fine fall with a combination of a scissors hold and half-nelson. Thus Miller had accomplished his job in the Art round.

Miller's next opponent was Tennant College, and Miller at once brought a scissors and arm lock into play. As a matter of fact the champion made full use of scissors holds. Double waist locks wqjild always throw College, while the "figure 4" scissors had College in trouble consistently. Miller had a combination of scissors and toe holds on College, when the latter signalled he had had enough. Miller's weight was list 81b. It wa« announced that Miller would wrestle .Tawaia at the Town Hall on the 26tli inst.
