____ ASSAULT ON VOLUNTEERS. A SEAMAN IMPRISONED. As the result of a fracas in Quay) Street yesterday morning, Ernest Mills I (20) appeared before Mr. c, K. Hunt, j S.M., at the Police Court yesterday afternoon on two charges of assault. He pleaded guilty to one of the charges, but not guilty to the other. The police stated that two free labourers, who had signed on the Devon, were leaving the office of the New Zealand Shipping Company when they were set upon by a number of seamen, both being abused and badly knocked about.
