Mr. William Unitt, a time-expired , navy P. 0., whose auxiliary yawl Mer- E ' ganser, in which he and his young daughter intended to go to New Zealand. , foundered off the Spanish coast, gave \ ' details of their adventures in a letter , to his wife. The engine had not worked • after their departure. They had a fair ( ' winde' to : near; Finisterre, then a dead , 1 calm, during which they drifted around . ' the Bay of Biscay. They had to stay at ! sea for 29 days, during which a chapter of accidents occurred. , : Mr. Unitt says: "We lost our small , I boat, the mainsail came down and the ; halyards broke. During the two days' ! gale we had to lower the sails and pump i' out the yawl every two hours. After i . the gale the compass failed. We had to ; steer by the sun and trust to Providence at night because there was rto moon. We ■ i obtained food from a French trawler, i I also from the steamer Radnor. We ' ■ made several attempts to get to Finisterre, and thought we sighted a good < ! ■ harbour at Caminha, but we ran on a f ! sandbank."—(A. and N.Z. Cable.) I (
